Judy Bragg has been a vital member of the grant review, readiness review and liaison teams since she became a member of Impact San Antonio in 2019. Here is what she has to say about our organization.
How did you first hear about Impact San Antonio?
I heard about Impact San Antonio at a business lunch after moving back to San Antonio.
When and why did you join?
My husband and I support many nonprofits. In December 2018, I was looking at our donations and remembered hearing about Impact San Antonio. I went on their website and learned how Impact SA has helped many nonprofits through grants made possible by collective giving. We were so impressed with the organization that, in December 2018, I sent in a donation.
What impresses and inspires you about Impact SA?
The organization is impressive through its purpose, the grants, the events and the women who serve Impact SA. I love that it is a volunteer-led organization and 100 percent of our annual membership contribution goes to the grant fund.
From a business perspective, I like how the grant process has been streamlined and is very effective. One of the most impressive experiences I had was serving on a grant review committee. I was in awe of how 18 women could come together to review and discuss 20-plus grant proposals for one focus group and narrow down the submitted proposals to select two agencies to give presentions on Grant Review Night. Everyone worked together to achieve a common goal. It was amazing!
Tell us what roles you have filled as a volunteer.
I have served on a grant review committee once and the readiness review three times. This year is my second as a Support Grant liaison.
I was a High Impact Grant liaison for the UTSA Fostering Success for Students with a History of Foster Care – Early Start Experience. Serving as a liaison was a wonderful experience, plus I am an alumna of UTSA. It was such a supportive way to help students with a history of foster care!
Do you have any roles you’d like to fill in the future?
At this time, I am happy serving with the grant review process and as a liaison.
What do you do for a living?
I work with organizations that need a project manager to come in and help get their projects done or that need help facilitating a meeting to reach common goals. I started my business in 1992 and have enjoyed working with our clients over the years. My project management skills came in handy when I was the liaison for the UTSA grant.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
It is an honor to be part of such a dynamic organization whose purpose is to support our local nonprofits. In addition, I have learned about the different agencies and how they serve our community, and I also have been able to meet like-minded women.
