Wiede Cutshall is a frequent volunteer at our events, from greeting attendees to helping with the setup and teardown of tables and decorations. Here’s what she has to say about being a member.
How and when did you first hear about Impact San Antonio?
I first heard about Impact San Antonio 15 or more years ago from a friend. At the time, I had a bit too much going on in my life to look into it, but I remember thinking what a great concept it was. Years later, I was chatting with a woman at a museum donor event. She asked if I was familiar with Impact SA, told me a bit more about it and said that I should check it out — and this time I did!
Why did you decide to join?
I joined in 2020, as Impact SA was pivoting to virtual events like so many other organizations. The timing was right for me to get involved, especially since many of my other commitments were put on hold for a while.
What inspires/impresses you about Impact SA?
I am amazed at the level of involvement and professionalism exhibited by the volunteers who run various aspects of Impact SA. I guess that it should be no real surprise that from a pool of 500+ dedicated women, we can find the right people to handle all the detail tasks required to make an effort of this size work. The sheer amount of money that has been raised over the years for our local grant recipients, and that in so many cases has been completely game-changing for them, is truly astounding.
What volunteer work have you done for the organization?
I have primarily volunteered to help with event/venue setup once we were able to return to in-person events. This is my best focus area. I am thankful for the women who are excited to be involved in the grant review process, and those following our grant recipients as they implement the plans we fund, but at this time I have no desire to be involved in that end of the organization. One thing that makes Impact SA so great is that there are so many different ways in which to get involved.
What do you do for a living?
I am a structural engineer working in the aviation Industry. I’ve been primarily working from home as a technical consultant for about the past 15 years.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I am a living example that some people need multiple prompts before actually executing, so it never hurts to talk to women you meet about Impact SA. Even if they are already somewhat familiar with us, your voice might be the one they need to hear before getting involved.
