Texas RioGrande Legal Aid

The mission of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is to provide free civil legal services and related education to low-income residents living in the 68 counties of Central, South, and West Texas. Our staff works relentlessly in service of our mission –to promote the dignity, self-sufficiency, safety, and stability of low-income Texans by providing high-quality civil legal assistance and related services.

Grant Focus:

TRLA aims to assist 200 more clients in domestic violence and family law matters, promoting safety and stability for survivors in eight counties. Our attorneys provide legal assistance and connect clients to shelters and resources, addressing issues like housing and financial abuse, while supporting survivors through safety planning and service referrals.

TRLA will provide civil legal assistance with protective orders, divorces, custody, child support, and related matters, and to increase family safety and stability. To support survivors through safety planning and, lastly, to connect survivors with support services. “At Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, we see how access to civil legal assistance can be the difference between continued danger and lasting safety for survivors of domestic violence and their children—because ‘just Google it’ isn’t exactly a reliable legal strategy. Impact San Antonio’s support allows us to deliver critical protective order and family law services for survivors who are already navigating the compounded challenges of poverty, trauma, and systemic barriers. Their investment directly strengthens family stability, protects children from harm, and helps survivors begin rebuilding their lives.
