Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc. The Battered Women and Children’s Shelter

The mission of Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc., The Battered Women and Children’s Shelter is to break the cycle of violence and to strengthen families by providing the necessary tools for self-sufficiency through delivery of emergency shelter, transitional housing, effective parenting education, and specialized intervention with children, youth, and the elderly, including services for those who perpetrate the abuse.

Grant Focus:

The Supplies for Survivors project will allow for construction of a storage facility on-site at the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter campus, facilitating greater ease of access of supplies to meet the material needs of adult and child victims of family violence.

“Domestic Violence (DV) is closely aligned to the economic mobility of victims and survivors. Many perpetrators use economic abuse as a form of control, meaning that a victim may have little to no access to uncontrolled funds and may lack a steady job history. At times victims arrive at the shelter with few to no possessions, except for the clothes on their backs- having taken the opportunity to flee when it arose. Residents at the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter (BWCS) are provided with food, shelter, supportive services, and supplies to meet their material needs- such as diapers, clothing, toys, and hygiene items. This grant will help to erect a storage facility on-site at the BWCS campus, to facilitate ease of access to these vital items for those in need.” – Marta Prada Peláez
