Kasandra Mitchell wasted no time in getting involved in Impact San Antonio after she joined last spring. The Boerne resident is brimming with enthusiasm for our organization and the work it does in our community! Here’s what she has to say about Impact SA.
How did you first hear about Impact San Antonio?
In the same week, I met with (Impact SA members) Karen Love and Staci Almager, and both mentioned I should get to know Impact SA. Then, on April 22 (2021), Staci hosted an online informational meeting, and I was impressed.
When did you join?
On May 10, when Impact SA held its Spring Fling membership event.
Who or what inspired you to join?
I like to give, and it is hard not to be motivated by that fact that my $1,500 will translate to $500,000-plus! That’s impressive! When you dive into what the money does, it is more than just one organization getting a lot of money, it is five worthy local nonprofits benefiting through the big grants and five more getting support grants. It is a true honor, downright humbling, to give in such a fashion. Thanks, Impact San Antonio, for giving me the opportunity to give beyond my current financial capabilities!
What do you enjoy most about being a member of Impact SA?
I am still “high” from knowing my money supports so many worthy organizations. However, if I think about the joys beyond the mission, it is being part of a volunteer group of women who sincerely care about giving back. Couple the perfection of the mission with the hearts of the volunteers and mix in the wonderfully professional administration of Impact SA, and wow, where have you been all my life?
What do you find most inspiring about our organization?
A thousand dollars of my contribution feeds the $500,000-plus in grants to 10 local nonprofits.
What activities have you been involved in so far?
I served on the Education Grant Review Committee and performed the role of a deep dive co-lead. I am now the liaison for the Education Support Grant to Communities in Schools of San Antonio. At Grant Award Night, I had the joy of meeting their CEO Jessica Weaver and Executive Vice President Melissa Kazen. Because the covid lockdown prohibited site visits, I was eager to get a firsthand look at the CIS process. On December 1 at Bob Lewis Elementary School, CIS hosted a small group of us.
Are there other activities that you’d like to pursue in the future?
I know I will serve on another grant review committee now that I understand the process better. I may ask to serve on Arts & Culture or Environment, Recreation & Preservation as a means of expanding my knowledge.
What do you do for a living?
I manage several businesses. I am most known for my speaking and coaching on leadership, success, wealth, and happiness, and I have written a book, The Happiness Formula. I have managed businesses that provide solutions for one’s financial, career, relational and spiritual health, and now I am excited to venture into the physical health realm with my newest venture. I just launched Healthy Treats 4U, which provides healthy vending machines to businesses in the area.
