President’s Message: April Always Feels a Bit Celebratory

April for me is always a whirlwind of events. It seems we usually get at least a few days of lovely weather before the oppressive heat settles in for good, so I try to get out and enjoy those rare, cooler, non-humid days. Whether it’s attending a spring wedding, enjoying Fiesta events late in the month, or something as simple as eating lunch on a patio, April always feels a bit celebratory.

Impact San Antonio has had much to celebrate. We have been honored with another award! On March 28th, TEAMability (2008 Support Grant, 2021 High Impact Grant) awarded YOU the Ruth Palmer Davis Legacy of Caring Award. Ruth had a son, Douglas, who suffered severe neurological damage as a result of contracting encephalitis in the mid 1950’s. Many years later, Ruth read about TEAMability in a newspaper article. She cried. And she promptly became TEAMability’s first individual donor. She remained a donor for 10 years, until her death in 2017. On her first visit to TEAMability, she said, “How grand it would have been for Doug to experience the opportunities offered here.” This award is truly an honor that belongs to each and every one of our members who continue to uphold our legacy of caring for the greater San Antonio community. We will be displaying both of our recent awards at our upcoming events, so please look for them if you will be attending the Burdick house tour and party on April 22nd, or Spring Fling on May 8th.

We also recently processed our 359th membership, which means we are well on our way to achieving our goal of awarding five High Impact Grants this year! You can help us achieve that goal by renewing or joining before May 15th

I look forward to more celebrating with all of you throughout the year. Achieving our membership goal, announcing our grant finalists, as well as this year’s grant awardees will all be celebrations indeed! Are you personally celebrating something this year? What milestone would you like to see Impact San Antonio achieve? My email is president@impactsanantonio.org. I’d love to hear from you.

Warm regards,

Yvonne Grothues, President, Impact San Antonio
