Christina Martin is a new member this year, but she has hit the ground running by joining two committees. Here is what she has to say about being a member of Impact San Antonio.
How did you first hear about Impact San Antonio?
In 2018, while I was serving on the board of San Antonio nonprofit WINGS (which helps women get treatment for breast cancer), Rose Mary Fry was assisting in strategy planning and she included a reference to Impact San Antonio in her introduction. That was the first time I had heard of it.
Who inspired you to join?
(Current Impact SA member) Dona Kotzur. She was the board president at WINGS and spoke highly of the model and the opportunity to meet other philanthropy-minded women.
What do you enjoy most about being a member?
The opportunity to give back at a level beyond what my personal giving could impact. The opportunity to be one person but to make the impact of 500 women is amazing. And to meet other women who care about our community is great. It’s so difficult to meet new people outside of work, and with one act, I have something in common with 500 women.
What activities are you involved in, and what skills do you bring to that work?
I’m on the Marketing and Communications Committee, and I am doing a deep dive into digital marketing and how it can benefit Impact SA. I call myself a “one-trick pony” because both of my advanced degrees are in marketing and I’ve never worked in another department in corporate America. I’m also on the Health & Wellness Grant Review Committee. I chose that one because it’s top of mind in the Covid-19 world. I’m thrilled to be on grant review.
What do you do for a living?
Surprise … marketing! I work for USAA, where I support the bank with marketing mortgages and consumer loans.
Anything else you would like to add?
I’m so excited to jump in and help Impact San Antonio in any way I can!
