The women of Impact San Antonio, who care so deeply about making lives better in our community, are acting on that emotion in a big way to make a difference.
At our Spring Fling event on May 10, we heard from all but one of the women who have led our organization as president over the past 17 years. They shared heartfelt stories of what Impact SA has meant to them and to the nonprofits we have funded. Some were clearly moved as they told their stories — a tribute to how they feel about the way Impact SA lifts up those who need our help.
What I also observed was how each of them, some who have been members since the organization was created in 2004, are still actively involved as volunteers and advocates. They have made an enduring place in their hearts for Impact SA, as have so many of our members who remain with us year after year.
One of our guest speakers that night was a delightful young woman who just graduated from UTSA — Caroline Nolen. She became involved in supporting a pilot program that Impact SA funded to mentor those with a history of foster care and help them access the support they need to adapt to college life at UTSA. She also has a similar history and wished she could have had that support when she started.
The most wonderful part of the evening, after she expressed her desire to be a member of Impact SA one day, was the spontaneous coming together of our seven past and current presidents to sponsor her membership so she could begin participating right away! Other members show their generosity in this way by encouraging others to enjoy the benefits of membership.
Those are the kinds of women who make up our organization — deeply caring and determined to take action to make a difference!
Impact SA has a way of bringing out the best in each woman who joins. We need 118 more memberships by May 31 to add to the 382 we already have and reach our goal of awarding one $100,000 grant in each of our five focus areas.
