For 2020, Impact San Antonio’s magic number is $500,000. Achieving this fundraising goal will make it possible for us to award five $100,000 grants that enable transformational change in each of our five focus areas.
As of now, we are at 44 percent of our goal. We have raised $222,000, which is coming from 221 members and one non-voting member. Our membership deadline is coming up – May 15.
Each year, we receive more than 100 compelling grant proposals from nonprofits who are doing great work to address our most difficult problems in creative and innovative ways. The list is long, and the need for help enormous. You can read about several examples below.

Throughout our history, the women of Impact SA are proud to have awarded 80 grants totaling more than $3.7 million to nonprofits that focus on these most pressing challenges.
These organizations focus on our most vulnerable residents who are experiencing challenges such as mental and physical health issues, domestic violence, poverty, food insecurity, homelessness, limited access to quality education or artistic expression, as well as threats to the environment. Here are a few examples:
Domestic Violence: Magdalena House
- Magdalena House is a transitional home in San Antonio that serves mothers and children who have fled dangerous and abusive lives. Our grant helped fund construction of a second home on their campus in the spring of 2015, doubling their capacity to offer secure, long-term shelter to families. With the support and programs of Magdalena House, these families are rediscovering a sense of hope for their lives and building the basis for a secure future.
Mental Health: Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP)
- Hundreds of individuals with mild to severe disabilities participate each year in a camp designed to help them reach their full potential. Our grant helped them build a new wastewater treatment plant. The plant was a game changer for CAMP that has allowed them to plan for expansion and growth. They are now serving well over 1,000 individuals with special needs every year.
Environmental Preservation: Friends of Government Canyon
- Government Canyon is a 12,000-acre wilderness state park on the northwest side of San Antonio whose mission is to teach visitors about the vital role of the Edwards Aquifer and the endangered species at the canyon. Our grant helped to construct an outdoor education amphitheater with accessible walkways, safety lighting and a projection screen. The amphitheater is expected to benefit more than 100,000
