The grants that Impact San Antonio makes to area nonprofits can have positive effects on the agencies and the clients they serve for many years after the grant was received. Such is the case for Children’s Association for Maximum Potential, better known as CAMP.
In 2013, the members of Impact SA voted to give a $100,000 grant to CAMP to replace the aging, inefficient septic system with a new wastewater treatment plant at the agency’s Camp CAMP in the Hill Country. Each summer, the camp serves more than 1,000 children and adults with special needs, giving them the opportunity to enjoy themselves through a variety of activities geared toward their abilities.
“The wastewater treatment plant was a game changer for CAMP,” said CAMP CEO Susan Osborne.
The infrastructure upgrade helped CAMP leverage a capital campaign to build three new buildings, which are now finished except for a few minor touches: a cabin to house the most medically fragile campers, a new health care center, and an indoor arts and crafts pavilion.
“Thanks to the women of Impact San Antonio, these new buildings will serve children and adults with special needs for decades to come,” Ms. Osborne said.
