Starting this month, we will be featuring an update on a project that our grants have funded. Our focus for January is SAMMinistries, which received a 2018 High Impact Grant to purchase a new van and renovate their Teen Center.
Elizabeth de los Santos, manager of grants for SAMMinistries, has the latest news about the project:
“Thanks to the generous donation from Impact San Antonio members, SAMMinistries has purchased a 15-passenger van and car seats. It is ready to use, pending an inspection by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the licensing agency responsible for ensuring that child-care centers maintain compliance with the minimum standards. Unfortunately, there have been long delays in this process, but we anticipate a visit during the month of January. Our Children’s Enrichment Center staff is looking forward to having the van, as they believe that providing the additional enrichment of Pre-K for S.A. to our preschool age youth will help them to grow socially, emotionally and cognitively in so many ways!
“The renovation of the Teen Center is underway. The space has been opened up and glass entry doors have been installed. The next steps are finalizing the installation of the new floor, lighting enhancements, new window coverings and paint. The final touches will be furnishings and technology to create a warm, useful space where our teens can discover their interests and build new friendships. The expected completion date for the renovation project is the end of February.”
