From a surprise cameo in The Dark Knight to a passion for collective giving, this Impact San Antonio member’s path has been anything but ordinary. Today, she’s channeling her love for community into supporting nonprofits across Southwest Texas.
What’s something fun or surprising about you that other members might not know?
San Antonio is the 10th place I’ve called home! I grew up in Miami, FL, went to college in Evanston, IL, and along the way have lived in places like Chicago, Sarasota, Detroit, New York City, Boston, St. Louis, and even Germany. Before becoming a military spouse, I had a previous life as an actress and performer—which is how I met my husband—touring with a USO-style singing troupe alongside the U.S. Air Force Band. One fun little bonus from that chapter of life: I have a small speaking role in the Batman movie, The Dark Knight, and it still makes me smile whenever it pops up on TV.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work and volunteering?
Outside of work and volunteering, most of my time is happily spent cheering on my two kids—Ellington (age 10) and Simone (age 7)—so I am very much in my “supporting my children’s social calendar and extracurricular activities” era! When I can carve a little time for myself, I love traveling with friends and family, getting lost in a great book or podcast, enjoying long brunches with girlfriends, and reminding myself that watching movies can be a hobby too.
What inspired you to join Impact San Antonio?
In my professional life, I work closely with nonprofit organizations, so I’ve seen firsthand how essential they are to the health of our communities. When my friend and former board member, Carol Lee, first introduced me to Impact San Antonio, I was immediately curious. Since moving to SATX four years ago, I’ve wanted to learn more about the incredible nonprofits doing meaningful work here, and philanthropy is a wonderful way to do that. I’d also experienced a similar women’s grant-making organization while living in St. Louis and have always been inspired by the impact of collective giving. After attending a couple of Impact events with Carol (including the most recent fantastic Grant Awards ceremony) I was both moved and excited to become a member.
I’m really looking forward to becoming familiar with what’s happening at nonprofits across Southwest Texas and doing my small part to help move their vital, mission-based work forward.
Are there specific issues or nonprofit areas you’re passionate about?
With a background in theater, I have a deep appreciation for arts and culture. At the same time, I’m passionate about a wide range of causes, including social services, healthcare, advocacy organizations, environmental initiatives, youth programs, education, and animal welfare. At the heart of it, I’m drawn to organizations that help communities thrive and grow healthier, stronger, more compassionate, and truly vibrant.
