Tell us about CAMP
Since 1979, the Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) has strengthened and inspired individuals with disabilities and medical conditions by creating opportunities to experience life beyond their diagnosis. Through residential summer camp and year-round programs, including Teen & Adult Day Adventure, Parent’s Night Out, Respite Weekends, and Family Weekend Retreats, CAMP provides recreation, respite, and connection for children and adults with disabilities and the families who care for them.
Every CAMP program is intentionally designed to remove medical, physical, developmental, sensory, and social barriers by adapting activities so every camper can fully participate. CAMP provides a safe, welcoming environment where campers can interact in their own unique ways, build confidence, develop independence, and experience a true sense of belonging.
How does the Music Garden and Pavillion help the community?
In 2024, CAMP was honored to be awarded a High Impact Grant from Impact San Antonio to construct a Fully Accessible Music Garden and Pavilion at Camp CAMP, their 55-acre property in Center Point, TX. This dream began in 2020 following the passing of Sammie Briery, mother of CAMP Chief Operations Officer Brandon Briery. In lieu of flowers, Sammie’s family and friends generously donated to establish a music garden in her memory. The James Avery Foundation later funded the purchase of the accessible, ground-mounted musical instruments, but CAMP still needed significant support to construct the space itself. Thanks to the generosity of Impact San Antonio and its more than 500 members, that vision became a reality.
Since its grand opening during CAMPfest, CAMP’s annual open house, on October 18, 2025, the Fully Accessible Music Garden and Pavilion has become one of the most cherished gathering places. Designed to blend music, nature, and accessibility, the space invites campers of all abilities to explore, create, and connect.
Over the past 9 months, campers have embraced the music garden. Whether experimenting with instruments, enjoying the sensory-rich environment, or spending time with friends beneath the shaded pavilion, campers return again and again. The music garden naturally encourages curiosity, creativity, and social interaction while allowing each individual to participate in ways that are meaningful and comfortable for them.
The impact has been extraordinary. Post-program surveys show that 91.3% of participants and caregivers reported that the music garden has been meaningful and impactful. More than simply a new feature on campus, it has become a place where confidence grows, friendships flourish, and every note played reinforces the message that every individual belongs.
On June 30, 2026, CAMP was thrilled to host members of Impact San Antonio for a reception with our campers in the Music Garden, and the reveal of a stone recognizing Impact San Antonio for their wonderful support, “Thanks to a 2024 High Impact Grant from Impact San Antonio, this music garden plays a song of inclusion, joy, and creativity for all.”
What is coming up that you want to tell Impact San Antonio?
As CAMP looks toward the future, the organization is in the early stages of a capital campaign to expand its campus and meet the growing needs of the families it serves. Planned projects include a new Dining Hall, Family Retreat and Healthcare Housing, and additional accessible restroom facilities for two existing camper cabins.
How do you feel about Impact San Antonio and what they do for our community?
CAMP is deeply grateful to Impact San Antonio for investing in a project that has already transformed the camper experience. The Fully Accessible Music Garden and Pavilion will continue to inspire creativity, connection, and joy while ensuring that every camper can make music, build friendships, and create lasting memories for generations to come.
