Cathy Barbatto joined Impact San Antonio in 2018 as a shared member and loves being part of our organization. Here’s what she has to say about Impact SA!
How did you first hear about Impact San Antonio?
I heard about Impact SA from my childhood best friend and Impact SA member Sandy Klein. She told me it was a women’s organization that made grants to nonprofits, and that all of the membership contributions go to our grants. I thought that was great, plus it’s women empowering people.
When and why did you decide to join?
I am starting my fifth year with Impact SA. I thought the concept of women donating to worthwhile organizations in our community was very inspiring. I’m in a shared membership with three other women that we formed when we came in. All of us are Incarnate Word High School graduates: my sister Carol Vogel, her best friend Andrea Wilber, and our friend Debs McCrary.
What impresses you about Impact SA?
I especially love the idea of 100 percent of the donated money going to worthy recipients, and that there is a follow-up process to make sure the money is being used for the reason provided in the grant application.
Are there any roles in Impact SA that you’d like to take on in the future?
I can’t commit to anything right now because my sister Carol and I take turns helping our brother, who has Parkinson’s disease and other medical issues. But in the future, I might want to do grant review. I think it would be interesting to look over the potential finalists and see what they do in our community.
What have you done for a living?
I worked at Methodist Metropolitan Hospital as assistant director of medical records, and then moved on to be the office manager of my husband’s family business for 37 years. We sold the business five years ago, so I am retired now.
