Our first Impact in Action event was held on March 7th. SA Youth was awarded a High Impact Grant (HIG) in 2024 to expand their SOAR program. Attendees heard from several current and former SA Youth students who told us about the benefits of the SOAR program in enabling them to receive their high school diploma.
We talk a lot at Impact San Antonio about how combining every $1000 membership enables us to award our $100,000 grants. What we probably don’t talk about enough is the compounding interest, if you will, from the programs we are able to fund. Just as you earn interest on your original deposit in a bank, you eventually earn interest on the interest. We saw this concept in full at SA Youth. What really struck me that day was when one of our members asked SA Youth what outreach they did to attract students. Their answer was that they don’t need to do outreach. The word of mouth from their students is all they need. And they have a waitlist! Our High Impact Grant has not only afforded more students the ability to attend SA Youth, but when those students encourage their relatives and friends to get their high school diploma through SA Youth, our investment in the education of these young people has an even deeper, longer-reaching impact.
This same concept works for Impact SA when you tell your friends, relatives and co-workers about what we do. We have fully funded two High Impact Grants so far this year! Let’s keep this momentum going! Can we get to our third HIG by the end of March? We have several upcoming events where you can meet fellow members and renew or join in person. Our April 15th social at Paloma Blanca still has open registration. Our next Impact in Action event is May 31st where we will get to see our grant dollars at work at the newly opened Esperanza Peace and Justice Center’s Museo del Westside.
