Nancy Schweers joined Impact San Antonio six years ago to honor her mother. Recently, when the Impact San Antonio Board asked members to consider renewing their 2025 membership in 2024, Nancy heeded the call and renewed early. As I reflect on the year-long celebration of our 20th anniversary – Impact San Antonio members should feel tremendous pride that our substantial grants are meeting dire community needs, offering avenues for change and hope, providing educational opportunities, and enriching the culture and beauty of the community. In recognition of our successful, collective-giving model and 20 years of transformational grant making, the San Antonio Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will name Impact San Antonio the “Outstanding Foundation” in its 2025 Philanthropy Awards.

Congratulations to 2021 High Impact Grant recipient Family Violence Prevention Services (FVPS) on the recent ribbon cutting celebration marking the completion of the new storage structure on the campus of the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter.
Our annual Grant Award Night on Oct. 28 was a 20th anniversary-size success! The University of Incarnate Word’s Rosenberg Skyroom, with its beautiful view of the downtown skyline, was an apt setting as hundreds of Impact SA members and guests gathered as we awarded more than $530,000 in grants to worthy nonprofits from across the greater San Antonio area.
Impact San Antonio’s Celebration last month was an inspiring event filled with stories of transformational change and an illustration of how the power of collective giving can fuel it. Blair Thompson, CEO of Roy Maas Youth Alternatives and a 2023 High Impact Grant recipient, spoke passionately about youth in foster care and the role we can all play in reigniting their dreams. Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda, District 6, presented a City of San Antonio proclamation congratulating Impact San Antonio on its 20th anniversary, and declared September 21, 2024 “Impact San Antonio Day.”
